2010 Crumbine Award Deadline Approaching

 

The Foodservice Packaging Institute (FPI) would like to reminde prospective applicants for the 2010 Samuel J. Crumbine Award for Excellence in Food Protection at the Local Level that the entry deadline is March 15, 2010.  More details for applicants can be found on the FPI's website.


 

2010 WEHA Awards and Scholarships

Nominations are now being accepted for WEHA's Environmental Health Professional of the Year Award and the WEHA Academic Scholarship. 

Environmental Health Professional of the Year
Take the time now to nominate a worthy candidate for the Environmental Health Professional of the Year.  The recipient of this award will personify our commitment to serve and protect citizens of Wisconsin from the many health risks posed by the environment in which we live.  Peers, management or the community at large can nominate an individuals.

WEHA Academic Scholarship
This scholarship ($1,000) is offered to an individual enrolled in a degree-granted program who are pursuing a degree or advanced degree in environmental health.

WEHA Currently Offering Stipends

Each year, WEHA sets aside money to provide the ability for members to attend conferences.  At this time, stipends are available to attend the following 2010 conferences.

  • WEHA Spring Educational Conference -
    Marshfield, WI
    April 14-15, 2010.
  • NEHA Annual Educational Conference -
    Albuquerque, New Mexico
    June 6-9, 2010

The stipends for the WEHA Spring Educational Conference will be available as a "fist come, first served" basis until funds are exhausted.  The money from the stipend can be used by a new environmental health professional to defer the cost of the conference registration, lodging and/or meals.  Students can use the funds for the cost of travel, lodging or meals.  Registration costs for students will be covered by WEHA.  Materials must be submitted by March 12, 2010.

One stipend, valued at $1,500, is available for one WEHA member to attend the 2010 NEHA Annual Educational Conference.  The allotted stipend can be used for travel, hotel accomodiations and registration fee.  This is a unique opportunity and allows a WEHA member to attend a national conference.  Materials must be submitted by March 12, 2010.

Each year WEHA offers 2 academic scholarships to students within the study of environmental and public health. 

  • WEHA Academic Scholarship - $1,000
  • Robert R. Nelson Award/WEHA Environmental Health Scholarship - $1,000

Members and friends of WEHA are now able to proudly show thier support by purchasing WEHA logo merchandise.  WEHA is working with an online company, Cafe Press, to offer a wide variety of apparel, housewares items, bags, mousepads, clocks, etc.

Choosing Environmental Health As A Career?

    Environmental Health is a field providing a wide variety of employement oportunities.  Trained professionals in this career provide research, technical information, inspection and consultation services for many industries and agencies.  Environmental health specialists may be employed in local, state, or federal health-releated agencies.  Others may work in food processing, occupational health, environmental monitoring firms, and insurance companies.
